denis horvat is a 26 year old dj and producer from frederiksvaerk, north of copenhagen his musical career has been pretty short up until now, but he has been scooped up by the label great stuff. his roots are the drums which you can see when you listen to his tracks. whether its the title track >lost fuse< with its dub elements or the more melodic >the vintage< or the deeper b2 number >satisfashion<

its now more than 20 years that arnaud le texier started his dj career in the west of france and in the paris club scene. since he moved to london five years ago, le texier has been able to put his stamp on the european techno scene, being label head of safari electronique and regular dj at fabric. his debut ep for cocoon recordings is borne by le texiers deep understanding of melancholy melodies, especially >elusanes< with its piano keystrokes coming directly from the basement and the ample detroit strings proves with hymn-like intensity that deep sensuality and unquestioning dancefloor ecstasy can be two sides of the same medal. besides a beat-less version of >elusanes<, the hypnotic >nightleads< with its bass guitar theme does already whet your appetite for the next sunrise in the balearic dunes

in 2009 the internationally acclaimed german director tom tykwer (perfume, run lola run, the international) supervised a film project in kenyas largest township kibera together with his wife marie steinmann. they put together a team of international film pros that each mentored one film student and helped them put together the movie soul boy. a story about a boy who has to go on a journey to rescue his fathers soul from a mysterious voodoo women.
the result of xavers score is a percussive journey reminiscent of minimal music from the 60s paired with african vibes but completely void of world music cliches. its closer to krautrock and steve reich than to the commonly shallow perception of indigenous music by first world movie directors. full of odd sounding kalimbas and plucky guitars, backed by heavy orchestral drumming and floating e-bows.

the fifth neurhythmics release is a compilation of befriended artists, and this is reflected by the different interpretations of the individuals to what the labels sound is about. juergen provides the a-side with >common sense< a vocal-snippet driven house-track, that once again underpins his sound-aesthetics of having it sound live and mixed on the fly, straight out of the machine. the flip-side could not start off any better. quite possibly a future classic, >signature< by mike binary, has soul and emotion literally squeezed in between each of the effortlessly programmed beats, and has become one the favourite tracks at the neurhythmics hq to ever been put on the label. last but not least, >no other< by the dirty soul project (you will know these guys, but we were sworn to secrecy) firmly pulls the hand brake and slows things down to just over 110 bpm. this doesnt mean that this very hypnotic number isnt going to work in the early morning slots…au contraire, actually...

scb is a house/techno project by paul rose, better known as uk bass pioneer and hotflush recordings owner scuba. scb was born in 2008 with a now-seminal rework of >hard boiled< from the first scuba album, a mutual antipathy, and has since developed with two full 12inches and remixes of mount kimbie and phil kieran amongst others. >loss / futureunknown<, on will sauls aus music imprint, is the first original scb material to surface outside of roses own circle of labels. >loss<, with its space melodies and repeating vocal slices, builds and builds into a slice of pure unadulterated dancefloor joy, very much in keeping with the musical territory occupied by aus at the moment. on the flip side, >future unknown<, fills out the atmospherics with dark stabs and driving rhythms which eventually give way to an almost scuba-esque brand of floating euphoria

it seems that dapayk used to listen to a lot of hip-hop when he was younger. his latest ep for still vor talent >let go< has got these influences written all over it. the title track starts out with a male vocal and some sounds that sound a little like scratching before things then quickly head into the direction of the club. the vocal by singer camara could not be more reminiscent of 80s house music and this track has got all the soul and groove of this era. beneath the delicate vocal and sound patterns lies a wonderfully simply staccato house groove that is sure to get everyone shuffling. on the flip things get a little more techy with >nneka<, a deeper and more melodic tech house glider that gently takes the listener towards a harmonic state of mind. beautifully arpeggiated pads, a warm soulful groove and some reverbed vocals make this one. last up is the sample-based tech-house stomper >upyo< featuring production partner jon hester. this is loop heaven: a pushy beat loop with many snares, reverse samples and an unexpected saxophone melody make this one the perfect changeover track from warm-up to peak-time. this ep shows dapayks skills to combine many musical influences into his unique still of tech-house music

droid recordings has always focused on presenting domestic talent. the latest eps contributors are no exception. kyle geiger of drumcode fame teams up with longtime collaborator and friend bobby dowell. they both reside in the technos simmering hotbed, the american midwest. they are among north americas chosen few still representing techno in the place where they were raised and influenced rather then adding themselves to the over-saturated european scene.

having been perfecting his production skills for the last 10 years, mrk1 is no newcomer to the world of bass-led music. a member of manchesters infamous virus syndicate, he has become internationally recognised as a huge dubstep talent. so when hench got the opportunity, they jumped at the chance to sign two typically down-right dark and dirty numbers from the man like mrk1.

fried tofu exists to bring some soulful sounds back into the mix. they have a militant approach to their output, selecting only the finest source material, and sympathetically reducing the ingredients to their raw, dancefloor friendly essence celebrating the often superior production of the 70s and 80s and avoiding the loudness wars which has seen club music recently distilled into an overcompressed and lifeless mass. far too many words have been wasted in the average release info sheet. so lets keep it short and let the music speak for itself.

after a furious appearance on cocoon komaton now joins the pro-tez family. >sweet princess< is a bass-bin filling, dance-floor destroying track from the hottest austrian export since arnold schwarzenegger. the a-side has the original version that deeply pulsates through some lonely piano with noise fractals and druggy vocals. it creates subtle sounds building throughout with percussion to excite. a2 follows with a sublime aural dub version by bvoice & khz. on the flip side scsi-9s remix has the power to fill the room with sound in a way that only pro-tez releases do. a must-have!

summer has come early. the fog is literally lifting and willing the summer to come early with this excellent ep for metroline. lead track diggler’s job is a breezy house number with pimping keys and a beautiful bass bounce. there’s plenty of movement in the percussion and a light touch that just begs for summer to come. shout romance is a shade tougher with its up-front kicks and acid-tinged bassline. it has slow burn intensity that is nicely counterbalanced by smooth reverb-soaked vintage synths.the jackspot remix of shout romance really brings out the funk in those synths, underpinning that with down-the line percussion and skittering hats that give the track a real drive. rounding things up nicely is in the right mood. the track’s bassline is sticky, sweet treacle over which congas and vocal cuts are expertly sprinkled to create a tasty treat. it never gets sickly though… horns are deployed sparingly, and the track has the same cool as a cucumber minimalism that makes this ep pure pleasure on the eardrums

always leena is the fertile breeding ground for inspiring artists that are new to the label and have caught the attention of mobilee’s label heads. this brand new release from smash tv is a perfect example of this vision in practice, as whilst the duo behind the name - holger zilske and kai preussner - have been in the game for quite some time, this is their first release on leena and it’s unsurprising that their high energy production and musical flair has been spotted and admired by the mobilee team. with releases in the past on labels such bpitch control, diynamic and get physical, now they are here to present ‘world wide wet’! all three tracks in the release come with the producers’ high energy dance-floor trademark, whilst in spite of it’s suggestive title ‘eating bullets’ takes it a bit deeper and gives you some space to kick back to. ‘world wide wet’ is a very welcome guest to leena, bringing more variety and spice to the imprints history so far…… enjoy
